Blanco is Looking for his Forever Human!
Blanco is a 3 year old neutered boy; he and I are still working toward his Rally Novice title, so their are some more things to learn before he is ready to leave Dainty Acres. The nice thing about working slowly on a goal like this, is I can keep it fun for him. Long breaks are fine, because we just pick back up or go back to the things he does know and work forward again. Training is a series of building blocks, before he can learn to do the "down" he needs to know how to "sit". Before he can sit, he needs to learn how to "stay". The good thing is he is doing the "down", so we have made great progress. I am not using the leash in my training so far. Next month we will work on stringing some of the Rally Novice Course #1 signs together, and I will start using the leash for that stage of our progress. Since I trained him to follow my hand, I don't really need a leash to do our work. And when we get to the advanced levels, he competes without a leash. Rally is a competition through AKC where the dog and handler do a series of commands all strung together on a course in a timed event. We started with the commands in the Rally Novice course, and Blanco is loving the challenge.
As you can see from the photos here, he is very athletic. He has an acre of 6' fenced yard to run and part of his daily routine is to get to run the yard chasing squirrels. Blanco is happy to stay in his environment with his human, whether it is lounging on the couch or running to Hobby Lobby. He is rather insecure though if he is left alone. IGs don't like being left outside alone, actually, they don't like doing anything alone. That is why I crate train all my dogs, so I can go to the kitchen without them if I want.

October flew by as Blanco got to sit in the bleachers and cheer on his siblings in the show ring. Blanco was my pick for the show ring back in 2022, then his ear didn't fold. I don't plastic surgery imperfections, so he gets to be perfect just the way he is, just not in the conformation ring. Blanco and I are working on his Rally Novice title when we are not on the road showing dogs.
Blanco is one of my favorites to train because he loves to do things right. He gets very upset if someone around him is naughty, he knows it and runs from them so he doesn't get pinned for the crime. In June a puppy came to live with us and he and the puppy became besties. He is super playful and silly with her, and he respects the happy souls and gravitates to the kind and happy players. His perfect human will have a fun spirit with a desire to do fun things with him that include the outdoors and going places. His perfect human will be as co-dependent as him, and as kind and sweet as him too. He plays well with others, but he is a typical Italian Greyhound, meaning he will be aloof until he thinks he has the other dog or human figured out. IG's are super loyal and smart. Once you are accepted into the IG circle, Blanco will jump out of his skin for you. Speaking of skin, he is a blue fawn, that means his skin is blue and the hairs that come out of the blue skin are tan. In certain light he shimmers in pink and purple tones, he is truly exquisite!
In this video we are going back to the basics of hand and voice signs. He remembers the drills, but is rusty because I was busy showing for the last 2 months. If I can control his head, I can control the whole dog, and I have his head, he is watching my hand nicely. There are 13 signs we need to perform in the Rally Novice Course #1. First he needs to know how to Heel, that is where he stays with me when we walk around, his front feet tracking in the lane left of me, and at my legs. In the heel position, he will also need to sit automatically when we come to a stop, keeping his front feet at my feet. I am holding my hand where he can see it, I use my hand to tell him what to do. If I manage where my hand is, I can line him up with my leg for the proper heel position. I want him to look at my hand for the sign of things to come. In a Rally competition I can not use bait, treats or toys, but for training purposes, I am a Pez dispenser.
I like warming up with the Fit Paws and disks to play the "touch" game. This gets him thinking and listening to me. He really likes to get things right, so this is fun for him. This training session is only a couple minutes long, so we finish up with asking for the "Front" and "Left Finish". Today was a huge success, later today I will bring him in my studio again for another 3 minutes of fun. Our next goal is to get that "down" again. In the next competition he needs to perform the "down" with a stay as I walk around him. Everything else on that course he can do as long as he follows my hand. I hope you are enjoying these videos, it sure helps me grow my reach if you hit the "Like" button on Youtube and Facebook. And please "SUBSCRIBE" if these are helpful!!!

072725 - Please Subscribe if you like these Videos!!! 🐾♥️🐾 Today is day 3 of my evaluation period for 2 Italian Greyhound girls from the GCH Spur Creek's Golden Rea Of Sunshine x GCH Dainty's Big Red litter. These girls are 8 weeks old, and today I am videoing from a floor vantage to get some video of them moving out from the side, front and rear. These little puddins are like hummingbirds, so I crop and slomo the video so I can get some good glimpses of their shoulder movement, neck carriage and top line. I am going to say that from this observation today, Beauty is going to be a curvy girl and Splash will have a more relaxed topline. I like how Beauty's neck comes out of her shoulder, and I love the lift in her carriage. Everyone in this litter has fabulous ear set and beautiful faces. This will be fun to go back later and see if I was right about this observation. They still have so much growing to do. Their bones are not calcified yet, so their is gumby action. We won't do any training until those bones are developed. But I can sneak in some work things when they are playing. Great job mama Goldie and papa Redmond! #StoneDesertKennels #DaintyAcresItalianGreyhounds #GoldieRedmondLitter2025 #StoneDesertsColoredWithKisses #StoneDesertsRedWhiteAndBeautiful #StoneDesertsSplashesOfColor

Everyday I am asked about price. More important than price is making sure you are dealing with a reputable breeder who knows the good and bad qualities they are passing on in their pups. Here at Dainty Acres we only breed purebred Italian Greyhounds, and we have been stewarding the responsibility of pairing healthy adults dogs since 1990. Some of our pups are sold to be show dogs, maybe one will be worthy to become a breeding partner, but all our pups are going to be someone's pet. There are prices for show pups and a lower price for pet quality pups. But if you are wanting to know how much you should be paying for a purebred Italian Greyhound, I can say that if you are paying over $3,000 for any dog, you are probably paying too much. When I am looking for a puppy I am first going to look for a reputable place to search Italian Greyhound breeders. Then I want to see the parentage of the breeding pair and I want to know the health history of the breeding pair's ancestry.
Finding a Reputable Breeder: The American Kennel Club here in the United States has a public search for puppies for sale called the AKC Marketplace. You can shop by breed, and breeders post ads for puppies they have for sale complete with registration numbers of the parents, photos and information about their kennel. There are bio's of the breeders, and AKC recognizes excellent breeders with the Breeder of Merit badge. The AKC Breeder of Merit breeder has great insights to the breed because for 5+ years they have been breeding, showing and involved in the breed clubs.
Breeding Pair Parentage: A reputable breeder will give you the names of the parents of the pup you are looking at. The next thing to do is to research the genealogy of the pup's parents. You want to look for any inbreeding of this breeding pair. The breeder will have information about the breeding pair, and you can go to a public site called BreedArchive.com to look up the genealogy. The AKC registration number or the AKC registered name can be used to search. When you are looking at the pedigree, the breeding pair should be diverse in their pedigree, meaning they do not have similar relatives. Breeding dogs that have similar pedigrees is called inbreeding or line breeding. Inbreeding can be a good thing and a bad thing. It was good that preservation breeders during war torn times kept the breed alive by inbreeding a pair. Inbreeding is good if you are trying to double up the possibility to pass on good qualities into a litter. But it is also bad for doubling of the bad qualities that you cant see, like genetic health issues.
Research Genetic Health Risks: BreedArchive.com is also a great place to see health history of the pups parents and grand parents. You also get to see the dogs in your pups ancestry that have reached Champion status. BreedArchive allows you to publicly search up to 10 generations of that dogs parentage. Another public site that I like is Canine Health Information Center or OFA, https://ofa.org/chic-programs/browse-by-breed/?breed=IT where the public can search to see if the breeding pair has registered any genetic testing. OFA has a CHIC certification that can be reached if the dog passes bred specific tests. Italian Greyhounds are susceptible to thyroid disease, patella problems, hip dysplasia and eye diseases. It makes so much sense to test the breeding partners for these breed prone diseases so you and your pet can have the longest, happiest and best life ever!
Today it is easier than ever to find purebred, healthy and happy puppies. Breeders can sell you a poorly bred dog or a well bred dog. You can pay upwards of $10,000 for hip dysplasia surgery or spend your dog's best years in blindness. Those costs cant even be realized let alone monetized.
The Cost of the Pup: So don't judge the price of the puppy until you have done your research on your puppy's breeder and health history. Good breeders are selecting good breed partners for you and your pup's future. Great breeders are doing their homework to produce champions and to rule out breed pairings that can pass on genetic problems. Truly amazing breeders are putting their champions and their health records on the public sites like BreedArchive, OFA and BetterBred for all the world to see.
So take some time and look for those good, great and amazing breeders. And take some time to browse the genealogy sites that the amazing breeders have posted their dog's test results on. It is our goal here at Dainty Acres to leave a lasting legacy and the proof of it for many generations, and give you and your pup every advantage to live a long, happy and healthy life.

Elzie's is conveniently dry frozen which means it is lightweight, compact and easy to travel with. We like to use 1:1 ratio, that means 2/3 cup of dry mix to 2/3 cup of warm water. Don't worry about over-hydrating your food! The pups will love it!
